According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2010 is the Year of a Golden Tiger, which begins on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011. The first day of the lunar New Year 2010 falls on the 14th day of February, which is Saint Valentine’s Day, so it is a day the West celebrates as a lovers’ day, a day of romance. To the Chinese, it is the start of the Golden Tiger Year. The Tiger is the third sign in the cycle of Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 animal signs. It is a sign of courage. This fearless and fiery fighter is revered by the ancient Chinese as the sign that wards off the three main disasters of a household: fire, thieves and ghosts.

And I was born in 1986, wich is also a year of tiger.

Six years of my primary school time was just like a yesterday dream, then middle school, college… and now.

Memories are so far from me, I almost start to doubt about them, was it really my dream or I just made them up to myself? I met my primary school desk-mate ปิ่น มณี (it’s her Thai name, sounds like “Bin Manny”), and we talked about how we play, how we laugh when we were both on primary school. Suddenly I was like drowning into my memories, lots and lots of sounds, lots and lots of images came to my mind, I can almost touch them.

Manny was my best friend in primary school, my Mom knows her Mom well, but we lost contact after we went to the middle school and university. She will be graduated next year, and I was graduated last July.

She said: “Do you remember when we were in the first grade of our primary school? You helped me pick cherry on our way home.”

Again, I was drowning.

Winter comes really fast this year. First snow of season with thunder storm hit Beijing last week, and this morning, Beijing embraced a even heavier snow.

The temperature here as report had fallen to zero before the first snow, and now it stays blow zero.

My room may warmer than the outside, but I can still feel the power of this god-created disaster, allow me the use this word, there are people trembling and suffering in this sudden snow, some may die.

Ok, back to this image. That’s another quick sketch I’ve done today, just to say “I am freezing man!”

Beijing is a good place, but if you are talking about the weather, I’d have to disagree.

Many times I walked in this corridor in my dream, there was a light far far away, I walked and walked, but could never get to the end. The light was unreachable.

Have you ever had a dream like this?

I was planning to read a book this morning, but this image came to my mind, a lot of dream flew through my memory, I just can’t help myself to paint this on my PC.

It was really simple to build the basic model in 3dsmax, apply maps, render… I spent my time on the passes outputting from 3dsmax, considered the postproduction later in Photoshop, I made a color pass, an AO, a “depth of filed” channel, and of course, the Alpha channel, as you can see, the background was hand painted. Some passes are added when I compose it in PS, you don’t know if you would really need that.

Painting the dream?
Yes. That’s what I did, and I am having fun from it.
A blog asked a question I quote:

Why do we make art?

I cannot specific the exact answer now, but to record the images cameras cannot, I think, is one of the reasons why we make art.

The draft of this zombie head was started months ago, I took every odd moment to make this image close to complete, first I did a sketch on the canvas just using black gray and white, actually there ware no white at all, coz brightness can never be increased on white color, we gonna leave some spaces for the colors in case we need it to be brighter.

I accomplished the details of the light side face, the teeth and the lips, still with black and gray. Then I stopped, I couldn’t go on with it. I made this expression on my face when I looked into the mirror after toilet, and times people passing by looked at me from behind when I did that.

I didn’t make any progress until tonight, I took my wacom, color it, then I finished it in about 1hour. I really didn’t feel good about it, I don’t like to stop a painting and I hate doing what I left months ago.

But sometimes you can’t paint, you can’t paint.

All done in Photoshop, it takes about 2hours.

I didn’t paint much in the past few months, so I choose to resign from the work. Now I live alone in a dark tiny room, prepare for the graduate candidate test, at lest I got more time for painting.

I don’t wanna be a stupid octopus, sees only the food but not what it could bring.
I won’t be an octopus.

I made the model and textures in 3ds max, rendered by using mentelray, and did some post process in After Effects, finally output from the Photoshop.

Simple geometries are a symbol of my simple mind. A “cube”, a “box” is what we really desire and work for, but even that simple things you could never reach.

The world is made of boxes, a nest flow up in the sky.

It’s been a long time since I updated the DukeArt if you noticed, I want to create a lot of art works but I can’t help myself from current works. I’ve been like crazy animal look for time for painting and resting. Life is hard, but I still have to hold my faith, making art work is what I really what to do, and I will do it with my whole life.

Peter Gric is one of my favorite artists around the world, most of his paintings are about architectures human or landscape,I saw despair on these lines and colors, but that was a gorgeous desperation.

I painted this just to pay honor to Gric with all my sincerity, 3d software had been used.

Watching the film “Knowing” of Nicolas Cage reminds me of this great film actor and his outstanding films.

I watched the film of Nicolas Cage since I was a very young boy.
The first film I watched according to memory, is the “Con Air“, translated as “the prison in the air” in it’s Chinese name. Cage was a tough guy in that film, protect the wake, beat the bad guys and save the day as every film hero did. This was a great film, in 1997 make an airplane crash that good on the film screen could be really brilliant, that tough guy image was remembered by all the audiences.

Face/Off gives us the other Hollywood tough guy John Travolta, but ten more years after we see these films, obviously Cage’s ahead of John.

I’d rather call him Cage or Nick, his first name was too weird.

I had a habit of collecting Cage-films, I have the DVDs of “ConAir”, the “World trade center”, the “Ghost rider”, the “Snake eyes”, the “Gone in 60 seconds”, the “8mm”, the “The Rock”, “The Weather man”, the “Matchstick man”, the “City of angels” and my favorite one the “Lord of war”.

He has so many faces in the films, fireman, Chemist, soldier even angel, we know him form the man he act, or we have no idea about him because he never let the true color come out?

He is a good actor, let’s hope he could bring us more surprise but not old and disappear, I love his films.
